Children with Special Needs

Music Together classes have long been an excellent and beneficial experience for all children of all abilities including those with special needs. 

Our research based, developmentally appropriate and fun class techniques, include major grown up participation and modeling for children, which gives every child the opportunity to participate and process the information at their own unique developmental stage.

Through the medium of music, your child will be getting visual, kinesthetic and auditory stimuli, gross and fine motor skills practice, speech articulation through songs with and songs without words, and learning all about the real and imaginary journeys that we create. In addition, at it's core, this is a music class that helps your child move towards basic music competence, which is the ability to sing in tune with accurate rhythm.

Mixed - Age Classes are a welcoming environment for children with special needs.  

In addition we are able to offer a Special Supportive Family Class which is smaller in size.  This Special Needs/Mixed Age Music Together class will offer increased support to children exhibiting regulation disorders, speech issues, sensory processing disorders or developmental delays.  They are welcome to attend alongside their typically developing siblings.  Adaptations will be made so that each child can participate to the best of his or her ability.  The instructor will use visual aids to accompany music and activities, adjusting sensory input as needed to maximize the engagement and enjoyment of each child.  Communication between parents and the instructor will provide parents with strategies to increase engagement and participation of their children.

We encourage families to use the teacher's guided activities as a framework in which to work with your individual children according to their specific needs and encourage you to use techniques that you have learned through your specialists that help your child.  We will always help you to keep it musical.  Our journey in class includes a great variety of approaches to the material that help focus, stimulate and calm, depending on each specific song.
It is our goal to offer an experience rich in music, movement and interaction in a fun and supportive environment.  The true magic of a Music Together Class is in the shared sensory experience.
